Some years ago I made a conscious shift in the way I was going to live my life. I was no longer going to always base my expectations of life by what had happened in it prior. Instead, I decided to base my anticipations on what I was feeling inspired to see, feel, and experience more of going forward. As a result, I went from brokenness to blessings in so many ways.
The central premise is that our life tends to be based around what we are already looking at. Failure to understand this does not change the reality of it. Even when we do begin to understand it, we then have to realize that 70% of what we do and think in a day is based on our subconscious programming (some experts say north of 90% is subconscious). For many of you reading this, that won’t be news. But just knowing it doesn’t change things much, it has to become baked in.
In other words, our anticipations largely dictate our manifestations, and if our anticipations are based mainly around the way things have always been, or what we are experiencing in our life right now, then our life will tend to remain as it always was. For example, what this means for you is:
* Your anticipations about how people will treat you, is largely how most people will treat you.
* Your anticipations about how much money you will have will largely determine how much money you will have.
* Your anticipations about your health largely determine how healthy you will be.
* Your anticipations about romantic relationships largely determine what kind of relationships you will have.
In other words, what you are anticipating about of all of those things is very often how they turn out. And remember, I’m talking mainly subconscious here. If I ask you consciously if you want people to treat you well, of course you will say yes. But often times your subconscious tells a different story. It may answer: “People haven’t always treated me well, so people probably won’t treat me well.” And trust me, if that’s what your subconscious is saying, it will override your conscious almost every time.
The way to retrain our subconscious is to very consciously change our mindset. There’s abundance / positivity mindset, and there’s scarcity / negativity mindset. If you are trying to get a new job, or a date, or anything – you could be consciously hoping for it every day. But your subconscious may be coming from the scarcity side of things, as though there aren’t enough good jobs, single women / men, etc… or that you really aren’t all that deserving or good enough. In that case you can desire the new job all you want, but if deep down you can’t actually anticipate it, it may not probably won’t happen.
Now the funny thing is sometimes the most negative people do get a lot of good things, and that is because their mindset is flipped. On the outside they’re negative, but deep down they believe they deserve the best, and viola, that’s what they get more of.
This all isn’t just some positive thinking woo-woo either. Even Jesus spoke to this often — ie, numerous examples of “It will happen for you just as you have believed.” Matthew 9:29 (CEB).
You see, once you truly believe something, it will tend to play out. And once you believe something about yourself, others will tend to follow suit and believe it about you too — and so will your life. After that you often won’t even be upset if something doesn’t work out, because you won’t take it as a rejection of your own worth. It will simply be what it is.
And remember to relax about it. Not everything is your own doing or your “fault.” There are billions of people doing and saying things, and thousands of years of cause & effect impacting our lives. But the key is that your mindset will help you shape what you are able to shape, and that is actually quite a lot, especially as it relates to your inner experiences (peace, joy, emotional freedom).
So the net-net of all this is: your internal and external circumstances tend to change based on your subconscious anticipations. If you want to change your subconsious anticipations, it takes reflection and conscious intention. With that you can build new subconscious habits and outlooks about whatever painful or lackful cycles you see recurring in your life, which is the best indicator of your subconscious beliefs. Then instead of continually reliving those things, you can shift your focus toward the inspired cycles you are feeling called into, and that’s when things get really exciting!
