We receive a number of common questions about the Good Gardens initiative, and we have collected some of most common questions here in our FAQs section.
What if I have no experience gardening? If you have the motivation and inspiration to participate then we will strive to empower you with most of what you will need to know. We provide knowledgeable consultants to speak with, suggestions on hearty crops, and tutorials on how / what to plant and harvest. Please get in touch if you would like to give it a try and we will help all we can.
What if my yard is small? This program works on scale, so every little bit helps. If you are inspired to take part but only have a small lot that is perfectly fine.
What if my neighborhood has deed restrictions? This is common in many of today’s newer neighborhoods. If you are wanting to utilize your front lawn in a deed restricted area we suggest you talk to your review board about standardizing an agreed way to do it on your lawn that keeps a sense of curb appeal. Some CDD boards will become inspired and will work with the community to create standards and best practices to enable the project, even if only approval of raised garden beds or boxes.
What if I try but my garden fails? Gardening is certainly both an art and a science. Sometimes our first season wont yield as well as we hoped, but we learn each season and it gets easier. The important thing is to have fun and recognize that it’s all for a good and very valuable cause, so it may take some trial and error to get better. We encourage you to enjoy the learning curve and not stress if it takes some time and practice to learn. Gardening is good for the soul! 🙂
