The Lord’s Prayer – The Our Father

The Lord’s Prayer (also called the “Our Father”) is the prayer Jesus taught followers when they asked for an example of how to pray. It’s simple, powerful, and deeply meaningful.

Here’s the prayer from Matthew 6:9–13 (part of the Sermon on the Mount):

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

You may also try saying a personalized version with modernized language:

My Father who is in heaven,
honored be your name.
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
